I caught a case of the #hoopcrazy in the Black Rock Desert in 2001. My friend Eric and I happened by this fabulous art bus with HUGE hoops laying around. We were early entry so no one was around. I hadn’t hooped since I was 6. My shy self jumped in and it wasn't long before my mind was blown. The hoop just floated on the deep base of the playa.
If anyone knows the crew of the palace on wheels above, please thank them for me. They got me started.
The third principle of Burning Man is Decommodification:
In order to preserve the spirit of gifting, our community seeks to create social environments that are unmediated by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising. We stand ready to protect our culture from such exploitation. We resist the substitution of consumption for participatory experience.
Hoops and Burning Man are so entwined that it has put me at odds with the whole commodification aspect of making hoops for a living. I’ve observed the finest in the industry but continue my flow. My signs are small, practice hoops plentiful, free social media is almost maxed out and I have yet to send out a Sales/Marketing email. EclecticHoops has paid for itself since 2010 and has more often than not paid the rent too. Thank you for spreading the word!
Fresh bling will be posted shortly. Build it and they will come...
Thank you!! Happy Holidays!!
